Satirical commentary of I Love Lucy every Friday! Here’s the info to watch ahead, plus all the WTFacts for this week.
This Week’s Episode:
“Lucy Plays Cupid”
Original Air Date:
January 21, 1952
*Note – I’m going to have to stop putting up videos of the full episodes, because… CBS. If, let’s say, hypothetically, there are videos of every single episode out there somewhere on some very well-known site, and all you have to do is use the search feature, you didn’t hear it from me.
This Week’s WTFacts:
- Co-star Edward Everett Horton (Mr. Ritter) was in over 120 movies, and that doesn’t include his TV work. He gets applause when he walks on. According to IMDB, he once said, “I have my own little kingdom. I do the scavenger parts no one else wants and I get well paid for it.” Um, maybe they didn’t want this particular part because it’s a bit rapey.
- Bea Benaderet (Miss Lewis) was actually originally offered the role of Ethel Mertz, but was already signed to play Blanche in The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show – another woman caught up in her friend’s crazy schemes with a hyper-critical husband. OMG I might have to write WTF Burns & Allen after this. #blanchehasashittylife
- Benaderet was 45 when the show filmed, and only 5 years older than Lucille Ball. The photo above is of her 15 YEARS LATER. In this week’s episode, she plays an 80-year-old struggling to walk. For fuck’s sake. NOTHING HAS CHANGED AT ALL in Hollywood.
See you Friday!
